It keeps me mulling if what you term "instinct" may also be called "intuition"...Richnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7064869808377826774.post-89819541955882060882009-07-13T19:48:24.784-07:002009-07-13T19:48:24.784-07:00Thanks Maritze and Rich....always interested in th...Thanks Maritze and Rich....always interested in the observations. On composition, Rich, not sure how much is planning....or just instinct. On that illustration, everything carries the eye to the left and up. The knee, the mountains, even the shadow under the figure. But each is 'stopped' by a sharp value change. The knee ends, the mountain has a strong shadow, the shadow is stopped by the little tree. I think this doesn't happen so much by planning....as in a math equation....as by a sense of necessity when sketching it out. Hey....enough theory! Whatever you do, Charlie, you are composin'.

And that Olympian shows all that skill. It's packed with beautiful work, your drawings are so appealing and I admire your style very much.

It's also intersting to see how things have changed in the comp bussiness over the years.
